The Importance of Proper Materials
On September 6, 2017 by ARTOAlthough tile is the most visible (and typically most expensive) component, it is just one part of the ultimate tile assembly. We have been making our concrete and ceramic tiles for over 50 years so we know they work pretty well. However, using the wrong mortar, grout, membrane, or other materials can result in cracking, debonding, or other problems.
That said, how do you know which materials to use in an installation? ARTO makes it easy for you by partnering with LATICRETE, one of the largest and most venerable manufacturers of setting materials to provided recommendations specific to our concrete and ceramic tiles for both wall and floor installations.
You can find these recommendations on our Downloads page along with installation guides, 3-part specifications, test data, and other information to help select the right products and appropriate installation materials.

LATICRETE also generously provides ARTO with mortar and grout for our display boards (we list grout color and other details on the back sides) to give a sense of how your finished installation will look.
The LATICRETE recommendations also detail their warrantied systems and the specific products required to secure a 1-year, 10-year, or 25-year warranty.
Whether you use LATICRETE or another manufacturers it is always a good idea to source installation material from a single manufacturer, even if you are not planning for a warrantied system.
Not only does this eliminate the possibility that components from different manufacturers might interact badly with one another, it eliminates finger-pointing and blame-shifting if there is a problem down the road.
